The Chicago Blackhawks added a hard-nosed blueliner to the organization on Sunday, agreeing to terms with defenseman Sheldon Brookbank on a two-year deal on the first day of free agency. As a warm--actually more of an extremely hot--Chicago welcome, the Blackhawks Blog brings you The Friday Five: Brookbank Edition. Here are five fun facts about the Blackhawks' newest defenseman.
1. In 2007 Brookbank won the Eddie Shore Trophy as the AHL’s Outstanding Defenseman.
The blueliner took home the top defensive award the same year he was named to the AHL’s All-Star team, leading all AHL defensemen in scoring and setting career highs in goals (15), assists (38), points (53) and appearances (78). Brookbank played in the league’s All-Star Classic where he collected two points (G, A). 2.

Last week, the Blackhawks added a new Finnish forward to the system with the 18th pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. As a friendly welcome to our new Blackhawk, the Blackhawks Blog gives you The Friday Five: The Teuvo Teräväinen edition.
Teräväinen is a few months shy of his 18th birthday, but spent the entire 2011-12 season with Helsinki's Jokerit of the top professional league in Finland. Take a look back at some of his impressive goals with the club.
1. August 28, 2011 – Teräväinen nets his first goal for Jokerit off a nice pass from teammate Jani Rita. It was Jokerit’s second goal of the night. The Helsinki squad would go on to win the game 3-0, capturing the European Trophy (Europe’s most prestigious hockey pre-season tournament).
