Two Blackhawks prospects from the 2011 draft class have been invited to Team USA's Evaluation Camp, which will take place from Aug. 4-11 in Lake Placid, N.Y. Defenseman Michael Paliotta (70th overall) from Westport, Conn., and center Alex Broadhurst (199th overall) from Orland Park, Ill., both received invitations to attend development camp for the first time.
The roster is composed of 46 players, 22 of which are eligible for the 2012 Entry Draft, who will vie for 23 spots on the U.S.'s 2013 World Junior Hockey Championship team. With only three returning players from the 2012 squad that placed seventh last year in Edmonton and Calgary, plenty of new faces will make their under-20 debut later this year in Ufa, Russia.
Paliotta, 19, finished his freshman year at Vermont College with 10 points (4G, 6A) in 30 appearances, ranking third among Catamount defensemen. He also paced team blueliners with 44 penalty minutes.
Broadhurst, 19, concluded his second and final year with the USHL champion Green Bay Gamblers, leading the team in regular-season scoring (26G, 47A in 53GP) and pacing the league in playoff scoring (8G, 6A in 9GP). He logged the first shorthanded hat trick in league history on April 24 in a playoff game.
The Blackhawks have had at least one representative on Team USA's final roster at 10 consecutive World Juniors dating back to the 2003 tournament.
