How have the Blackhawks been spending their offseason? chicagoblackhawks.com recently sat down with your favorite players to see how their summer has gone so far and discuss some of their aspirations for the 2012-23 NHL campaign.
What did you do this summer? Did you stay home or go on vacation?
I’ve been home for the majority of the summer. I went to Mallorca, Spain, with a couple of buddies two weeks ago. Played some golf and had some fun—it was a great trip. Me and Hjalmarsson were in Ukraine for two nights to watch the Sweden vs. England European Championship game, so it was a pretty cool experience, something different.
It’s been good to just be home and see all of my buddies. We don’t get to hang out too much during the year, so it’s been a good summer so far.
Did you keep in touch with or hang out with any teammates?
I’ve seen Hammer a few times; he came to my housewarming party, and he’s probably the only one I’ve seen. I’ve kept in touch with a few of them, texting and stuff. You get preoccupied with things when you’re home and getting into a groove. But it’s fun, coming back here and seeing everyone.
Have you hit the ice yet this summer? Are you trying to work on any particular skills or parts of your game?
I’ve been trying to do the same program I’ve done the last couple of years—our strength coach’s program—and it’s been working. I haven’t started skating too much yet, but when I get there I’ll be working on my shot, getting it more accurate.
What’s your personal goal for next season?
I just want to improve. It’s tough to set certain goals in terms of points, but improving as a player, getting more responsibilities and contributing more to the overall team game.
