Three Stars of the Week: Feb. 11-17, 2013
|(Barry Rankin/Saginaw Spirit)|
1st Star: LW Garret Ross, Saginaw (OHL)
The Line: 3GP, 3G, 5A, +3 plus/minus
Although Saginaw went 1-2-0 this week, Spirit captain Garret Ross continued his offensive excellence, registering at least one point in the three contests. After scoring Saginaw’s lone goal in a 5-1 loss to Plymouth on Feb. 13, he recorded a pair of helpers in a 6-4 loss to Oshawa two nights later. Ross saved his best performance for the last game of the homestand, exploding for five points (2G, 3A) in a 7-4 victory over Windsor on Feb. 16.
2nd Star: C Brandon Pirri, Rockford (AHL)
The Line: 3GP, 3G, 1A, +1
Pirri logged points in three appearances for Rockford as the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate continued their upward trend with a 2-1-0 record last week. He scored a goal in a 5-3 loss at Peoria on Feb. 13, tallied twice more on Saturday in a big 7-2 win over Abbotsford, and finished his weekend with a helper against Lake Erie, as the IceHogs won a 2-1 game in the shootout.
3rd Star: C Jimmy Hayes, Rockford (AHL)
The Line: 3GP, 1G, 2A
Hayes has contributed plenty of offense in the last month as he continues to adjust to his new role as a center (read what Assistant General Manager Norm Maciver had to say about his progress this season). Hayes scored a goal and an assist at Peoria and added a helper in the home win over Abbotsford.
Morin didn’t appear in the goal column for Rockford, but he dished out four assists and took 10 shots on goal in three games, picking up a +1 plus/minus rating along the way.
Tomkins made 84 saves on 90 shots in his two starts last week, including a 48-save shutout—his fourth of the season—on Feb. 13 against Whitecourt. He sports a 20-13-6 so far this season, ranking third in the AJHL in wins and minutes played.
