1st Star: RW Ryan Hartman, Plymouth (OHL)
The Line: 3GP, 4G, 2A

Chicago’s 2013 first-round pick surged for six points in three games for the Plymouth Whalers last week, including a three-point night against Saginaw (2G, 1A) on Oct. 5. Hartman currently ranks first on the team and shares 17th in the Ontario Hockey League with nine points (6G, 3A) in his first seven games.

2nd Star: D Travis Brown, Moose Jaw (WHL)
The Line: 3GP, 1G, 4A

Brown collected a goal and four assists, extending his point streak to six games from the start of the season (Sept. 20-Oct. 4). Brown tallied his first of the season on Oct. 4 as part of a four-point night against Red Deer and currently leads the Warriors with nine points in seven games.

3rd Star: D Adam Clendening, Rockford (AHL)
The Line: 2GP, 1G, 2A

The Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate opened their regular-season schedule with a weekend split, with the second-year defenseman notching points in both contests. Clendening assisted on Rockford’s only goal of the game on Oct. 5, before collecting a goal and an assist the next night against Texas.

Honorable Mention: G Kent Simpson, Rockford (AHL); C Mark McNeill, Rockford (AHL)

Simpson was pressed into action early in the first game of the season after Antti Raanta hobbled off with a leg injury just 5:36 into his North American debut. Simpson picked up the slack immediately, making 49 saves on 51 shots in a 3-1 loss in San Antonio. The next night, Simpson collected 41 saves on 44 shots as the IceHogs won 4-3 over the Texas Stars.

McNeill broke out in his second game of the season, notching a goal and an assist, including the game-winner late in the second period.

Around the System:

  • Finnish sensation Teuvo Teravainen logged points in two league contests last week, tallying his first goal of the season on Oct. 4 in a 3-2 shootout loss to SaiPa and collecting a helper the next night in a 5-3 win over Assat.
  • Alex Broadhurst, who was signed to an entry-level contract in the spring, scored his first professional goal in his AHL debut on Oct. 5... Jeremy Morin tallied in Saturday’s tilt and added his first fighting major of the season... Phillip Danault recorded a pair of assists in that game, including one on McNeill’s game-winning goal... Defenseman Klas Dahlbeck equaled his goal output from the 2012-13 season when he tallied on Oct. 5 against Texas.
