Any Blackhawks fan will tell you how important captain Jonathan Toews is to the team's overall success, but now it seems that the rest of the hockey world is taking note, as well. In a bracket-style vote on TSN.ca, Toews edged Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos in TSN's "Franchise Faceoff," voted the player under 23 with whom most fans would most want to start a franchise.
Matched up in a single-elimination bracket-style fan vote, the Blackhawks' captain eliminated 2011 NHL Rookie of the Year Jeff Skinner, Colorado's Matt Duchene, and L.A. Kings defenseman Drew Doughty before facing Stamkos in the final.
In four seasons with the Blackhawks, Toews has scored 115 goals and 267 points in 302 career games, leading the Hawks to the 2010 Stanley Cup championship and winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. A 2010 Olympic gold medal winner, Toews also was part of two World Junior Championship-winning squads for Team Canada, and an IIHF World Championship-winning team in 2007.
Fellow Blackhawk Patrick Kane won his first two matchups in the bracket before falling to Stamkos in the "final four" round.
