1st Star: C/RW Kevin Hayes, Boston College (H-EAST)
The Line: 2GP, 1G, 3A, +4 plus/minus rating

Hayes’ revival this season has helped bolster the Eagles’ offense, which currently ranks second in the country behind Minnesota. Chicago’s 2010 first-round pick extended his point streak to five games with a goal and three assists over the weekend. Hayes collected a pair of helpers in BC’s 5-0 win over Bowling Green on Friday, then added a goal and an assist the next night in an 8-2 victory against Penn State. Hayes ranks second on the team with 28 points (11G, 17A) in 18 games this season.

2nd Star: D Michael Paliotta, Vermont (H-EAST)
The Line: 2GP, 1G, 3A, +4 rating

Paliotta had a big weekend as Vermont won both their tilts, setting a college career high in points. On Friday, the junior blueliner notched an assist in a 3-2 win over Clarkson. Paliotta collected two more helpers and a power-play goal in the Catamounts’ 6-2 win over Canisius on Saturday. He now ranks fourth on the team and paces club defenseman with 12 points (3G, 9A) in 17 games, 11 of which have come in his last eight outings.

3rd Star: LW Garret Ross, Rockford (AHL)
The Line: 2GP, 1G, 2A

Ross played a part in both of Rockford’s goals in their 5-2 loss at Iowa on Thursday, opening the scoring and adding an assist. On Friday, Ross contributed another helper as the IceHogs fell 4-2 to Grand Rapids, despite outshooting their opponents 42-30. The 2012 fifth-round pick moved into seventh place in team scoring with 15 points (8G, 7A) in 31 games.

Honorable mentions: G Brandon Whitney, Victoriaville (QMJHL); C Joakim Nordstrom, Rockford (AHL)

Whitney picked up his third shutout of the season on Saturday, making 22 saves against Shawinigan in a 5-0 win. He has a .913 save percentage in 10 games in December.

Nordstrom contributed an assist in each of the IceHogs’ tilts this weekend, extending his point streak to four games (1G, 3A). He 13 points (8G, 5A) in 23 games with Rockford this season.

Around the system:

  • Brandon Mashinter, acquired from the New York Rangers in the Kyle Beach trade earlier this month, collected a goal and an assist for Rockford last week.

  • David Gilbert, a 2009 seventh-round pick, picked up four points (2G, 2A) in two games with the Toledo Walleye, tallying a goal and an assist in two straight games last week... Maxim Shalunov netted a goal in Toledo’s 7-3 loss to Cincinnati on Saturday and now has two tallies in his first three games in the ECHL.
