From The Archive: First Blackhawks game at the United Center

toews
Today in Blackhawks history: The Chicago Blackhawks played their first game in the United Center on Jan. 25, 1995, a 5-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers that saw winger Joe Murphy score the first Blackhawks goal in the new building. Chicago's five goals came from five different players, and 11 different players tallied points in the contest. Although the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the United Center, which replaced the demolished Chicago Stadium as the home of the Blackhawks and Bulls, took place in August of 1994, the 1994-95 NHL lockout delayed the venue's inaugural hockey game until January of 1995.
