3 Stars of the Week: March 31-April 6, 2014
(Greg Hamil/Rockford IceHogs)

1st Star: D Adam Clendening, Rockford (AHL)
The Line: 2GP, 2G

Clendening extended his point streak to three games with two goals in Rockford’s weekend set at Abbotsford last week. Clendening netted his 11th of the season in Friday’s 6-3 loss, then scored again on Saturday in a 5-3 loss. Clendening continues to lead the IceHogs with 44 assists and 56 points in his second AHL campaign.

(Todd Reicher/Rockford IceHogs)

2nd Star: RW Mark McNeill, Rockford (AHL)
The Line: 2GP, 1G, 1A

McNeill made offensive contributions in both of Rockford’s games over the weekend, opening the scoring on Friday before posting a helper the next night. McNeill leads Rockford’s active roster players with 17 goals and ranks second among team rookies with 36 points this season. Chicago’s 2012 first-round pick is one of two players to have played in all 70 games so far this season.

(Todd Reicher/Rockford IceHogs)

3rd Star: C/RW Ryan Hartman, Rockford (AHL)
The Line: 2GP, 2A

Hartman collected his first AHL points with a pair of helpers in Rockford’s 5-3 loss at Abbotsford on Saturday; he finished the game with a +2 plus/minus rating. Chicago’s 2013 first-round pick made his Rockford debut on March 30 and has three shots on goal in his first three professional contests.

Honorable mentions: C Alex Broadhurst, Rockford (AHL); D Stephen Johns, Rockford (AHL)

Broadhurst posted a goal and an assist for the IceHogs in Friday’s 6-3 loss; his 42 points (14G, 28A) this season pace team rookies and share 15th among active league rookies.

Defenseman Stephen Johns made his AHL debut over the weekend and tallied his first first AHL goal in the third period of Saturday’s 5-3 loss at Abbotsford. Johns shared the team lead with four shots on net in that game and has 7 SOG through his first two outings.

Around the system:

  • Defenseman Travis Brown assisted on Victoria’s first two goals in a 6-3 loss to the Portland Winterhawks in Game 2 of the WHL Western Conference Semifinals; the 2012 fifth-round pick now has six points (2G, 4A) in as many playoff games. The Royals trail the defending WHL champions 2-0 in the series, with Games 3 and 4 scheduled for Monday and Tuesday evening.

  • Garret Ross picked up his 15th goal of the season to open the scoring for the IceHogs on Saturday; the 2012 pick has 33 points through 68 games in his rookie campaign... Phillip Danault notched a pair of helpers on Saturday for his fourth multi-point game of the season. The 2011 first-rounder has 21 points (5G, 16A) in 66 appearances for Rockford.

  • Byron Froese collected five points (3G, 2A) in three games for the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones, who went 2-0-1 last week. The 2009 fourth-round selection opened the scoring in a 3-2 overtime loss to Fort Wayne on Wednesday, netted a pair of goals—including the game-winner—in a 4-1 win over Evansville on Thursday and posted two helpers in Saturday’s 5-2 win over Fort Wayne. Froese has 16 points (10G, 6A) in 21 games with Cincinnati since being assigned from Toledo in mid-March.
