Blackhawks Notebook: Kane, Hossa set to debut

Two of the Blackhawks’ biggest weapons will return to the lineup Wednesday, as Head Coach Joel Quenneville announced that both Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa will make their preseason debuts tomorrow against the Detroit Red Wings at the United Center.

Hossa did not open training camp with his teammates and didn’t make his first appearance at practice until last Wednesday; the 32-year-old winger was given permission from the team to stay in Slovakia for a few extra days to attend the memorial service for longtime friend Pavol Demitra and to care for his newborn daughter, who was born Sept. 9. Demitra was among those killed when the KHL’s Lokomotiv Yaroslavl’s plane crashed in Russia.

Kane, meanwhile, has been recuperating from wrist surgery which he underwent in July. Since his return, Quenneville has been practicing the 22-year-old at the second-line center position.

Sharp progressing: Quenneville told the media Tuesday that forward Patrick Sharp skated on his own for the third time in as many days. Sharp, who is recovering from an emergency appendectomy that he underwent earlier this month, is "progressing well," according to Quenneville.

News and notes: Goaltender Corey Crawford will play the entire game Wednesday, with free agent invitee Ray Emery scheduled to take the full game against Pittsburgh on Friday… Daniel Carcillo (flu) and Rob Klinkhammer (injury) were again held out of practice Tuesday.
