1st Star: C Phillip Danault, Moncton (QMJHL)
The Line: 3GP, 3G, 4A, +6 plus/minus
Danault’s first full week of action with Moncton proved fruitful indeed, as the Wildcats outscored their opponents 20-4 en route to winning all three games on the slate. Danault himself tallied a goal in each contest and added four helpers, including a four-point night (1G, 3A) on Jan. 16 vs. Saint John. The two-way center also helped his team in the puck possession game, winning 58.5 percent of his draws last week (31-for-53).
2nd Star: C Brandon Pirri, Rockford (AHL)
The Line: 2GP, 3G, 3A, +1
It was a rocky week for the IceHogs, who started their five-game homestand going 1-1, but Pirri proved that even with the recent call-ups to Chicago, there’s still scoring power down on the farm. On Jan. 18, Pirri scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, leading Rockford to a 3-1 win over Peoria. The next night, Pirri put up four points (1G, 3A), catching up to team captain Martin St. Pierre for the team lead in assists (20).
3rd Star: C Vincent Hinostroza, Waterloo (USHL)
The Line: 3GP, 4G, 3A, +5
Last week, Hinostroza earned 2nd Star accolades due to an eight-point performance, and he hasn’t slowed down, adding seven more in his last three games. The Black Hawks lost 4-2 at Lincoln on Jan. 15, but bounced back with victories over Cedar Rapids (7-3) on Jan. 18 and Dubuque (4-3) on Jan. 19. Hinostroza logged four points (2G, 2A) against Cedar Rapids and now has a five-game scoring streak.
The Boston College Eagles split their weekend, losing 5-2 at home vs. UMass and winning 9-3 the next night at Northeastern. Hayes broke out offensively, contributing four assists over the two games, and was a +3 against Northeastern.
Just down the road from Boston, Chris Calnan lit up the scoreboard last weekend as the South Shore Kings swept a two-game homestand against the New York Apple Core. Calnan logged a hat trick—his first of the season—on Jan. 19 and added two more points the next night.
