Beau Starrett, with Bria Davis  - Special to chicagoblackhawks.com

Throughout the week, 2014 draft pick Beau Starrett will be blogging for chicagoblackhawks.com about his experiences during his first Blackhawks Prospect Camp.

The third time is a charm—today we played our third and final scrimmage, and my team finally got the win. The past two scrimmages didn’t go in our favor, but that only motivated us more for today’s game. We knew coming into it that we couldn’t get swept; the boys and I were really excited and pumped up for this one. We went in with the mindset of getting the win and finishing strong, and that’s what we did. Once the adrenaline gets going you kind of block everything out and focus on the task at hand. It was serious and important to us, but we still had fun with it.

I think my overall performance in the scrimmages has been good. During the first game I was able to score from a deflection, and at the beginning of today’s game I scored, too. I’m on my best game when I’m playing through bodies, first on the forecheck and really getting the puck. For someone like me, a big body, I get noticed when I play through my checks. Anytime I get the puck, it’s a good thing—and if I can get it to hit the back of the net, even better. I felt good out there today.

Since this was the last scrimmage, it was really our last chance to let the coaches see how we perform in game situations. I know many of us wanted to finish off strong, and during the last shift of the game you just want to give it your all.

Although I’ll be here until tomorrow, some of the other guys are heading out today. It was nice getting to know them and I’m glad I got the chance to play with some of them; they’re good guys. Tomorrow, I plan on just going through our daily routine again and having a good end to camp. We’ll probably do some more off-ice leg work, which up until now has been pretty intense; I’m definitely starting to feel it. I’ve got some lactic acid building up and feeling a little sore, but nothing I’m not used to. This training has been beneficial.

With so much of our time spent at Johnny’s, it is sometimes nice to get in a change of pace. Last night was fun because me and a few other prospects got to spend some more time around the city. Jack Ramsey, Luc Snuggerud, Dylan Sikura and I went down to Michigan Avenue and had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. We also got some shopping in at The North Face and Lululemon. We might head back out tonight and do some more shopping, which would be welcome.
