Richards, Vokoun And Huet Named NHL 'Three Stars' Of The Week
FIRST STAR -- MIKE RICHARDS, C, PHILADELPHIA FLYERS
Richards led all NHL scorers with eight points (three goals, five assists) in two games. He began the week by posting single-game career highs with five points (two goals, three assists) and a +5 rating in a 6-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres Feb. 19 and tallied his League-leading seventh shorthanded goal of the season and added a pair of assists in a 5-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins Feb. 21. The 24-year-old Flyers captain leads his club in assists (37) and hits (106) and shares the club lead in points (23-37--60) and plus-minus (+23).
SECOND STAR -- TOMAS VOKOUN, G, FLORIDA PANTHERS
Vokoun recorded a pair of shutouts and stopped 115 of 118 shots in three games, lifting the Panthers (30-21-8, 68 points) to seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings. He stopped all 36 shots in a 4-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils Feb. 17, made 38 saves in a 4-0 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks Feb. 19 and concluded the week by making 41 stops for his sixth shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over the Boston Bruins Feb. 21. Vokoun improved his season record to 20-17-3 with a 2.41 goals-against average and .927 save percentage in 44 appearances.
THIRD STAR -- CRISTOBAL HUET, G, CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
Huet posted a 3-1-0 record and stopped 103 of 109 shots, helping the Blackhawks (34-16-8, 76 points) strengthen their hold on the #4 seed in the Western Conference. He stopped 20 shots in defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3 on Feb. 17, made 31 saves in recording his third shutout of the season in a 4-0 victory at Florida Feb. 19, turned aside 30 of 31 shots in a 3-1 victory at Dallas Feb. 21 and made 22 stops in a 2-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild Feb. 22. Huet has posted a 17-11-3 record with a 2.23 goals-against average and .918 save percentage in 32 games
this season.
