Blackhawks Sign Barker, Trade McCarthy

General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have signed their 1st round pick, the third overall selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Cam Barker.

Tallon also announced the trade of defenseman Steve McCarthy to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 3rd round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

"Steve hadn't played much in the past three years and where we had him slotted I wanted more of a veteran presence," said Tallon. "With the signing of Barker and Brent Seabrook, and the improvement of our young defensemen in Norfolk, it's just a numbers game. Steve's been a big asset to us and he's a great kid. Vancouver wanted him and I'm sure he'll do well for them."
