Hawks Trade Leighton; Acquire Bartovic
General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the team has acquired forward Milan Bartovic from Buffalo in exchange for goaltender Michael Leighton. Bartovic has been assigned to the Blackhawks' American Hockey League affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals.
Bartovic, 5'11", 197 pound, 24 year-old forward spent last season with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League appearing in 69 games while recording 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points and 83 penalty minutes.
He was originally Buffalo's 2nd choice, 35th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Bartovic has appeared in 26 NHL games with the Sabres recording two goals and eight assists for 10 points and 18 penalty minutes.
Leighton, a 6'3", 186 pound, 24 year-old goaltender spent last season with the Blackhawks' American Hockey League affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals. He appeared in 41 games with the Admirals posting a record of 20-16-3 with a 2.02 goals against average and a .921 save percentage with seven shutouts.
Originally selected by the Blackhawks in the 6th round, 165th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Leighton has appeared in 42 career NHL games with the Blackhawks while postings a 8-21-10 record with a 2.96 goals against average, a .902 save percentage and three shutouts.
