Blackhawks Sign Hilbert, Yakubov
Shawn Thornton Reassigned To Norfolk
General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have signed forwards Andy Hilbert and Mikhail Yakubov. Forward Shawn Thornton was re-assigned to Norfolk in the AHL.
"These signings definitely upgrade our skill level," said Tallon. "With the injuries we've had to Eric Daze and Tuomo Ruutu, Hilbert and Yakubov give us alternatives as far as skill is concerned."
Hilbert was acquired by the Blackhawks from the Boston Bruins on November 6 in exchange for a 5th round pick in the 2006 Draft. He signed a professional tryout contract with the Norfolk Admirals and has appeared in 5 games at Norfolk scoring 3 goals while adding 4 assists for 7 points.
Yakubov was the Blackhawks' 1st round pick (10th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He had been playing for Spartak in the Russian League appearing in 29 games scoring 5 goals and adding 7 assists for 12 points with 38 penalty minutes. He played in 30 games for the Blackhawks in the 2003-04 season and scored one goal while adding 7 assists for 8 points. He played last season at Norfolk in the AHL where he played in 59 games scoring 12 goals and adding 15 assists for 27 points.
Shawn Thornton had been recalled by the Blackhawks on November 16. He appeared in two games for the Blackhawks on the recent road trip and did not score.
