Blackhawks Acquire Parenteau, St. Jacques

General Manager Dale Tallon announced this evening that the Blackhawks and Anaheim have reached an agreement on a minor league deal. The Blackhawks have acquired right winger Pierre Parenteau and defenseman Bruno St. Jacques from Portland in the AHL in exchange for goaltender Sebastien Caron and forwards Matt Keith and Chris Durno who had been playing for Norfolk also in the AHL.

"Parenteau has started to come into his own," said Blackhawks Director of Hockey Operations Stan Bowman. "He is a skilled forward who is very good on the power play. He has continued to improve each season. St. Jacques is a well-rounded defenseman who is an above average skater with offensive ability. He has an edge to his game and he gives us a veteran who has NHL experience."

Parenteau, 5.11 and 195 pounds, was Anaheim's 9th round pick in the 2001 entry draft out of Chicoutimi in the Quebec Major Junior League. The 23 year-old forward has appeared in 28 games for Portland this season scoring 15 goals and adding 13 assists for 28 points with 35 penalty minutes and a +6 rating. Of his 15 goals, 7 have come on the power play. His 15 goals led the team and he was second on the team in scoring just two points out of the team lead. He is currently in his fourth pro season having played last season at Portland and the previous two seasons at Cincinnati.

Parenteau played for Team Canada in the 2003 World Junior Championships appearing in 6 games and scoring 4 goals and 7 points to help Canada capture the Silver Medal.

Bruno St. Jacques, 26, stands at 6.02 and weighs in at 210 pounds. He was originally drafted by Philadelphia in the 9th round of the 1998 entry draft. This season, he has appeared in 25 games for Portland in the AHL scoring 1 goal and 9 points with 26 penalty minutes and a +2 rating.

St. Jacques played in 13 NHL games for the Flyers before being traded to Carolina in the 2002-03 season. He appeared in 53 NHL games for Carolina and in 1 NHL game last season after joining the Ducks. In his NHL career, he has played a total of 67 NHL games scoring 3 goals while adding 7 assists for 10 points with 47 penalty minutes.

Sebastien Caron was signed by the Blackhawks as a free agent on August 8, 2006. He has played in 9 games for Norfolk with a record of 4-4-4 with a 4.03 goals against average and a .868 save percentage. He also appeared in 1 game for the Blackhawks this season and defeated the St. Louis Blues by the score of 3-1 back on November 10th.

Matt Keith has appeared in 19 games for Norfolk this season scoring 2 goals and 8 points with 15 penalty minutes and a +2 rating. He also played with the Blackhawks earlier this season appearing in 2 games with 4 penalty minutes and a minus-2 rating.

Chris Durno was signed by the Blackhawks as a free agent on September 25, 2006 after coming to training camp on a tryout basis. This season at Norfolk, Durno appeared in 22 games scoring 4 goals and 5 points with 61 penalty minutes and a minus-2 rating.
