Practice Notes: Havlat Returns, Lines Shuffle
Martin Havlat and Jason Williams will both be back in the lineup Wednesday against Tampa Bay and will play with center Robert Lang ... Patrick Sharp will join Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews on a line with Tuomo Ruutu, Jake Dowell and Dustin Byfuglien making up the 3rd line.
"Sharpie has played so well," Savard said Tuesday of the decision to play Sharp with the rookies Toews and Kane. "We feel like Ruuty and Jake and Buff is a good line, too. I wouldn't want to play against them every night."
Savard likes having the versatility that Byfuglien, normally a defenseman, brings to the lineup. With James Wisniewski leaving the game in the 1st period Sunday at Edmonton, Savard was able to use Byfuglien in both roles.
"Good power forwards are tough to find, and Buff has played forward before," Savard said.
Sergei Samsonov is expected to be a healthy scratch Wednesday with Adam Burish, Yanic Perreault and Martin Lapointe playing on the 4th line.
"For [Samsonov] to be effective, he has to be one of our top six forwards. It's pretty tough for him to crack that," Savard said. "He's been a real pro and he understands and will continue to work."
Nikolai Khabibulin will get the start in net the next two games with Patrick Lalime playing Saturday in St. Louis.
Kevyn Adams joined his teammates at the Edge Tuesday and came prepared with notes on Tampa Bay and Phoenix for the Hawks coaching staff. Adams said he has never watched as much hockey as he has the past two weeks as he continues to recover from surgery on his ACL and MCL.
