Glenbrook North, Fenwick To Compete For Blackhawk Cup

GLENBROOK NORTH 4, GLENBROOK SOUTH 3, OT: In a battle between fierce neighborhood rivals, the Spartans knocked off the Titans 4-3 in overtime in the Final Four of the Blackhawk Cup state tournament on Monday night at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.

Adam Goldblatt tallied the game-winning goal with 32 seconds remaining in overtime on a rebound off of his brother Brandon's shot for Glenbrook North.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the third period, the Spartans exploded for three straight goals to take the lead. Danny Carroll, Brandon Goldblatt and Jared Lowell each had a goal in the burst.

Nick Stuercke tied the game with 11 seconds left in the third period for Glenbrook South, last year's state champions, before the Goldblatt brothers' heroics. Chris Benz and Trevor Stevens tallied the Titans' first two goals and Jason Nesbitt made 25 saves in a losing effort.

FENWICK 3, LOYOLA GOLD 1: Vincenz Barsanti made 29 saves to lead the Friars to the 3-1 win over the Ramblers Monday night in the Final Four of the Blackhawk Cup state tournament at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville.

Kevin Sutton scored the game-winner for Fenwick when his shot deflected off a Loyola defenseman and into the net.

Mike Freiteg added an empty-netter with 28 seconds remaining to ice the game for the Friars, who won state titles in 2003 and 2004. Matthew Dory recorded the first goal for Fenwick, which has outscored their opponents in this year's Blackhawk Cup state tournament by a margin of 23-2.

John Morrow scored the lone goal for the Ramblers on assists from Michael Charny and Nicholas Morici.
