SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Admirals right wing Troy Brouwer has been named to the American Hockey League's All-Rookie Team.
Brouwer, 21, is a 6'3", 215-lb. forward from Vancouver, British Columbia. The highest-scoring rookie in Norfolk franchise history, Brouwer has re-written the franchise record books this season. He is already building on new marks for goals in a season (40) and points by a rookie (77) and has tied the record for power play goals in a season (20). He also established a new franchise-record goal-scoring streak last month by recording a goal in six consecutive games.
Brouwer currently has 40 goals and 37 assists for 77 points in 63 games for the Admirals. He is currently ranked second in the AHL in goals and power play goals (20), is fifth in overall scoring and is tied for third in game-winning goals (7). Among AHL rookies, Brouwer is second in both points and goals and is tied for the lead in game-winning goals. Earlier this week, Brouwer was named the Rbk Hockey/AHL Rookie of the Month for March.
The 2004 seventh round draft pick (214th overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks on December 23 at Colorado. He appeared in ten games with Chicago this season going scoreless with seven penalty minutes. Brouwer won the Bob Clarke Trophy as the WHL's leading scorer last season with Moose Jaw, registering 49 goals and 102 points in 72 games.
Brouwer will receive a custom designed crystal award in recognition of his selection to the 2006-07 AHL All-Rookie Team. He becomes the sixth Admiral to be named to the All-Rookie Team, joining Jeff Maund (2000-01), Tyler Arnason (2001-02), Michael Leighton (2001-02), Rene Bourque (2004-05) and Martin St. Pierre (2005-06).
