Bears Down Admirals 6-1

HERSHEY, PA - The Norfolk Admirals (48-21-6-2, 104 points) fell to the East Division-leading Hershey Bears (48-16-6-6, 108 points) 6-1 on Saturday night at Giant Center.

Matt Hendricks netted a shorthanded goal at 12:28 of the first period as the Bears led 1-0 after twenty minutes

Norfolk briefly tied the game midway in the second period. Carl Corazzini sent a pass from behind the goal line to the slot. Kris Versteeg collected the pass on his backhand, turned around and fired a shot past Hershey goaltender Frederic Cassivi stick side at 6:13.

However, Hershey scored five unanswered goals to close out the second period with a 6-1 lead. Just 39 seconds after the Versteeg goal, Deryk Engelland sent a shot through a screen and into the net at 6:52. Joey Tenute chipped a shot over Crawford's left shoulder from in close at 9:12.

Kyle Wilson netted a power play goal at 10:49 to make it 4-1 Bears. Tenute's second goal of the period at 14:26 marked the end of the game for Crawford. Scott Barney closed the second period with a wraparound that beat new Norfolk goaltender Mike Brodeur at 19:42.

Neither team found the back of the net in the final frame.

Crawford (17 shots, 12 saves) was saddled with the loss. Brodeur (16 shots, 15 saves) did not receive a decision. Cassivi (29 shots, 28 saves) got the win.

Norfolk was 0-9 on the power play. Hershey was 1-10.

The Admirals are now in third place in the East Division, four points behind the Bears and two points behind the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (50-20-2-4), who defeated Philadelphia tonight. Both the Bears and Penguins have a game in hand which they will use tomorrow when they face each other in Hershey.
