Blackhawks Win NHL Draft Lottery, Will Pick 1st Overall

The Chicago Blackhawks were informed today by the National Hockey League that the club has won the weighted NHL Draft Drawing and will move from the 5th overall selection to the 1st overall selection in the 2007 NHL Draft that will be held in Columbus, Ohio on June 22nd and 23rd.

The Blackhawks had an 8.1% chance of winning the Draft Drawing.

"We're obviously very excited about winning the draft lottery," said General Manager Dale Tallon. "It's a great opportunity for us to continue to turn things around. This is a great break for our organization. It allows us to keep adding pieces to our puzzle."

"I know we will definitely get something that we need, a goal scorer," said Chief Amateur Scout Michel Dumas. "The top five or six players in this draft are very good players. It's very possible that the player we select will be able to step in and play next year."

This will be the first time in the club's history that the Blackhawks have held the 1st overall selection in the NHL Draft. The highest the club has ever picked in the NHL Draft's modern day format (since 1969) was 3rd overall, four times (1980, Denis Savard; 1984, Eddie Olczyk; 2004, Cam Barker; and 2006, Jonathan Toews).
