Tallon: Hawks Will Take Top Forward

chicagoblackhawks.com caught up with Blackhawks general manager Dale Tallon on his way to Halifax to scout the QMJHL Playoffs for a brief Draft Q&A.

Safe to say that the Blackhawks will grab a goal scorer with the 1st pick?

We're going to go for a top forward, yes.

How would you evalutate the talent in this year's draft compared to previous years?

Well, there's no [Sidney] Crosby or [Alexander] Ovechkin, but there are some really good players in the top five or seven, and some quality players who could help our franchise. We're excited about getting this opportunity.

When you get an opportunity like this to pick 1st overall, do you absolutely hang on to it or consider trading it?

I'm sure we're going to get a lot of phone calls during the draft week wondering if we'll move this pick. We're going to listen to everything. This is a great asset here we have. We're going to sit tight and see what happens. If somebody comes along and makes us an offer we can't refuse -- if it makes our team and organization stronger -- then we'll have to look at it. It's great to be in this position right now.
