Blackhawks Open Preseason vs. Flames
New faces, new coaches, new rules and a fresh start for the Blackhawks as they open their eight game preseason schedule with back-to-back home games Saturday and Sunday at the United Center vs. Calgary and Minnesota.
Going back to the last Blackhawk home game at the United Center on April 1, 2004, you will definitely have to check the names of the Chicago players. Only six players that wore Hawk uniforms in that game are on the current roster. Plus, there's the new head coach, Trent Yawney.
With the signing of nine free agents headed by All-Star and Stanley Cup goalie Nikolai Khabibulin and All-Star defenseman Adrian Aucoin, the 2005-06 edition of the Blackhawks assembled by general manager Dale Tallon figures to be a strong playoff contender.
Coach Yawney will be taking a close look at several players who will be out to capture an available roster slot leading up to the NHL opener at the United Center on October 5 against Anaheim, including 1st round pick Brent Seabrook, Cam Barker and Anton Babchuk on defense.
Saturday's clash features last season Cup finalist, Calgary, which lost to Tampa Bay and Khabibulin in 7 games. The Flames are coached by former Hawk Darryl Sutter and have Tony Amonte and former Red Wing Darren McCarty on their squad. Calgary opens it preseason Friday night in Edmonton.
