|Nathan Barrett scored with under ten minutes remaining to give the Admirals a 4-3 victory over the Pirates on Friday night in Portland.|
The Pirates got on the board first as Ryan Shannon's sharp-angle shot beat the leg pad of Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford at 4:08. The Admirals tied the game seven minutes later. Mike Brown wrested the puck from a Portland defender along the end boards behind Pirates' goaltender Jani Hurme. Brown sent a pass toward the slot that Colin Fraser one-timed past the glove of Hurme at 11:36. Norfolk took the lead with under three minutes left in the period. Hurme stopped a Mark Cullen shot but left the rebound in the crease. Martin St. Pierre backhanded the rebound into the net while being checked to the ice. The power play tally at 17:39 gave Norfolk a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes of play.
Portland center Geoff Peters tied the game with a wrister from the right circle that eluded Crawford five-hole at 10:57. A five-on-three power play led to another Admirals' lead with five minutes left in the second stanza. Carl Corazzini sent a shot from the right face-off dot that went through traffic and beat Hurme stick side at 14:59. Norfolk took a 3-2 lead into the locker room after two periods.
The Pirates tied the game at three goals apiece just 1:47 into the third period, as Pierre Parenteau's one-timer blast beat Crawford. The Admirals re-gained the lead with a tally in the twelfth minute of the third period. Hurme stopped a shot from Jason Morgan that was re-directed by Matt Keith. However, Nathan Barrett found the rebound in a goalmouth scramble and stuffed it home five-hole at 11:54. Parenteau's tally was the only one of Portland's 12 third-period shots that found the back of the net, as Norfolk held on for a 4-3 victory.
Corey Crawford earned the victory and stopped 27 of 30 shots. Jani Hurme got the loss stopping 32 of 36 shots.
Norfolk was 2-8 on the power play. Portland was 1-7.
The Admirals next take on the Lowell Lock Monsters tomorrow afternoon at 2:05.
