Bears Sweep Admirals

EAST DIVISION SEMIFINALS GAME 4: NORFOLK (1) AT HERSHEY BEARS (5)

The 2005-2006 season came to a close on Tuesday night in Hershey, as the Bears defeated the Admirals 5-1 to sweep the East Division Semifinal Series four games to none.

Norfolk fell behind early in the match, as a Boyd Gordon shot snuck through traffic and past Adam Munro at 2:42. It appeared as if the visitors would head into the locker room trailing after one period. However, the Admirals got a late goal to knot the score at 1-1.

Carl Corazzini got the rebound of a Dustin Byfuglien blue line blast at the bottom of the left circle. Corazzini settled the puck down before wiring a wrist shot through the legs of Frederic Cassivi and just inside the far post. The power play marker came with 9.5 seconds left in the opening frame, and it evened the score at a goal apiece to start the second period.

Hershey's Graham Mink un-tied the game 8:18 into the second stanza, as he stood at the top of the crease and deflected a Tomas Fleischmann shot from the right half-wall past Munro. The Admirals trailed 2-1 after forty minutes.

Eric Fehr scored a power play goal off a wraparound at 14:20 of the final frame. The Admirals mounted a comeback bid that was thwarted by the strong goaltending of Cassivi, who stopped point blank shots by Mark Cullen and Martin St. Pierre.

Norfolk pulled Munro in favor of the extra attacker with just over two minutes left. But Dave Steckel and Kris Beech tacked on empty net goals with under two minutes to go, and the Bears won the game 5-1 and the season 4-0.

Adam Munro kept the Admirals in the game by stopping 27 of 30 shots, but he was saddled with the loss. Frederic Cassivi earned the victory and made 30 saves on 31 shots.

Norfolk was 1-5 on the power play. Hershey was 1-6.
