Prospects Camp: Who Stood Out?
|
The 2006 Prospects Camp concluded Tuesday with a 7-3 White scrimmage victory over Red. Evan Brophey, Adam Hobson and Scott McCulloch (empty-netter) each scored twice to lead White, who also got a goal from Tony Lagerstrom. The Wisconsin trio of Adam Burish, Jake Dowell and Jack Skille once again paced Red with Burish and Dowell scoring a goal apiece. Linemate Nathan Davis had two assists and scored the third goal. Skille assisted on Davis' tally. Scoring Summary>> Note: Cam Barker, Dave Bolland, Dan Bertram, Mike Blunden and Jonathan Toews all left camp early to attend a ceremony honoring Team Canada's gold medal winning 2006 World Junior Championship squad. Norfolk head coach Mike Haviland: I really liked [Chris] Porter. I thought he had a good camp. I thought [Jack] Skille had a good camp. Jake Dowell had a good camp ... that whole line was really good with [Adam] Burish and [Nathan] Davis. I really like the future of the Blackhawks with Bolland, Barker, Toews and the other guys who had to leave early. Norfolk assistant coach Ted Dent: Porter was a guy who impressed me. He was tenacious, finished checks. Obviously the guys who left early -- they were impressive at various times throughout the week as well. Blackhawks director of hockey operations Stan Bowman: I was impressed with Toews. I thought Nate Davis and Dowell played well. Also, the big guy, Danis-Pepin, and Jordan Hendry played well. Jack Skille has really developed too. Blackhawks goaltending coach Stephane Waite: Of course, Corey Crawford is still our best prospect in goal. But Joe Fallon was a big surprise. He may have been our best goalie this week. Every game he was solid, and he is big and quick. Blackhawks amateur scout Ron Anderson: I didn't see the [Team Canada] guys, but I thought the whole 'college' line of Burish, Dowell and Davis brought a lot of energy, made a lot of things happen, and went and got the puck back. I thought [Simon] Danis-Pepin was good. [Petri] Kontiola is a really skilled player who stands out. And I thought our goaltending was good. Corey played well and I liked Fallon too. RW Adam Burish: I think Dowell had a great week. I'm prejudiced toward Wisconsin guys, obviously, but Jake had a strong week. Chris Porter looked real good, the way he flies around the ice out there. I guess playing with Davis I noticed him a lot. He had a great week. Those were the three guys who really popped out for me, just because of their skating mainly. They were flying around the ice all week. C Evan Brophey: Obviously, Dowell, Burish and Davis had an excellent camp here. Their chemistry here was by far the best on both teams. Simon Danis-Pepin: Obviously I think Jack Skille looked pretty good. He's a quick player. Toews is gone, but he looked really good in the few days before that. You could see a lot of poise in Barker. It was great to play with those guys. LW Chris Porter: I thought a lot of the college guys did real well. I'm pretty good with friends with Jake Dowell and Jack Skille. I thought they both had real strong weeks. And my teammate up in North Dakota, Jonathan Toews, I thought played real well. G Joe Fallon: I thought the 1st rounders stood out -- Toews, Skille. D Ben Shutron: The three 1st rounders -- Cam Barker, Skille and Johnny Toews really jumped out. They're high picks for a reason. They showed their speed and skill and all the assets they have. RW Jack Skille: I think [Bryan] Bickell had a great week. I feel like I connected with him right away and we played well together. I think Toews too. He really jumped out at me. He's a great player.
