Admirals Fall In Providence

NORFOLK (3) AT PROVIDENCE BRUINS (6)

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island - Despite Brandon Bochenski's team-leading ninth and tenth goals on the season, the Admirals fell to the Bruins 6-3 on Friday night in Providence.

The Bruins took the lead midway through the first period on an even strength tally from Mark Stuart at 8:30. However, the lead was short-lived as the combination of Bochenski and Martin St. Pierre gave Norfolk the lead.

St. Pierre was the beneficiary of a giveaway in the offensive zone slot. He dropped a pass behind him to a trailing Bochenski, who sent a wrister past Bruins netminder Hannu Toivonen at 9:26.

With the assist, St. Pierre tied a franchise record for most consecutive games with an assist (6 games, 9 assists since 10/28 versus Hartford).

A power play three minutes later led to the Admirals' second goal. St. Pierre found Bochenski at his favorite power play shooting location - the left wing faceoff circle - and Bochenski buried his sixth power play goal of the season at 12:44. Norfolk found itself on the power play again shortly thereafter.

However, a center ice turnover led to a Jonathan Sigalet shorthanded breakaway goal at 15:26. The Admirals and Bruins were tied 2-2 after one period of play.

Providence took the lead mid-way through the second period, as Ben Walter re-directed a Bobby Allen point shot past Norfolk backstop Corey Crawford at 9:04. Providence led 3-2 after forty minutes.

Nate DiCasmirro gave the Bruins a 4-2 lead 10:51 into the third period as he scored on a partial breakaway. Danny Richmond drew the Admirals to within one goal of Providence with a power play point blast at 14:23.

However, Wacey Rabbit sent a shot through Crawford's leg pads at 17:11 and Kris Versteeg cemented the Providence victory with an empty-net goal with five seconds remaining.

Corey Crawford picked up the loss with 24 stops on 29 shots. Hannu Toivonen saw 32 shots and made 29 saves to earn the victory.

Norfolk was 2-4 on the power play. Providence was 0-2.

The Admirals travel north to Lowell to face the Devils on Saturday. Game time is 7:05, and the game can be heard on the radio at 1010-AM WRJR, 1270-AM WTJZ and 1450-AM WBVA.
