Admirals Erase Two-Goal Deficit, Win In OT

NORFOLK (5) AT LOWELL DEVILS (4), OT

LOWELL, Massachusetts - Dave Bolland's first professional goal won the game for Norfolk in overtime, as the Admirals erased a two-goal third period deficit to defeat the Devils 5-4 on Saturday night in Lowell.

The Admirals took an early lead with a power play goal 5:08 into the game. Martin St. Pierre sent a pass from the half-boards to the left of Lowell goaltender Frank Doyle to the opposite faceoff dot.

Troy Brouwer one-timed the puck past Doyle for his ninth goal on the season. With the assist, St. Pierre set the new Norfolk Admirals franchise record for consecutive games with an assist (seven games).

The Devils struck back five minutes later, as Chris Minard deposited a rebound from a Justin Papineau shot into the net at 10:18. Norfolk would take a 2-1 lead into the second period after Carl Corazzini tallied his seventh goal of the season.

Brandon Rogers dropped a pass in the high slot to Corazzini, who sent a slapper past Doyle at 17:51. Bolland assisted on the play for his first professional point.

Papineau again connected with Minard midway through the second period, as Minard scored his second goal on the night at 7:10 to knot the score at 2-2. The Admirals encountered penalty troubles shortly after that goal.

The Devils capitalized on a five-on-three power play opportunity at 8:29, as Barry Tallackson tapped in a cross-crease pass from Papineau. Lowell led 3-2 lead after forty minutes and out-shot Norfolk 22-4 in the second period.

The Devils took a 4-2 lead 5:36 into the third period, as Ryan Murphy took advantage of a Norfolk turnover with an unassisted breakaway goal. The Admirals cut the deficit to 4-3 on an unlikely goal by Jonas Nordqvist.

Just after Norfolk had successfully killed a penalty, Nordqvist cleared the puck 200 feet down ice on an apparent icing attempt. However, Doyle mis-played the clearing attempt and saw it go through his legs and into the net for a Norfolk goal at 9:03.

The Admirals tied the game at four goals apiece just under a minute later. Colin Fraser re-directed a shot on goal that Doyle stopped. However, Corazzini picked up the rebound and put it in the back of the net at 10:00.

In overtime, Brouwer sent a shot from the top of the right circle that Bolland re-directed past Doyle for his first pro goal to win the game for the Admirals with just 38.5 seconds left in overtime.

Corey Crawford made a franchise record 54 saves on 58 Lowell shots and earned the victory. Frank Doyle was saddled with the loss and made 30 saves on 35 shots.

Norfolk was 1-4 on the power play. Lowell was 1-7.

The Admirals conclude their six-game road trip tomorrow afternoon in Manchester against the Monarchs.
