Admirals Lose First At Home In Regulation
NORFOLK ADMIRALS (1) VS. WORCESTER SHARKS (3)
BRIDGEPORT, CT - The Worcester Sharks (10-7-1-3) became the first team to defeat the Norfolk Admirals (14-5-2-1) in regulation on home ice this season as they beat Norfolk 3-1 on Friday night at Scope.
After a scoreless opening period, the Sharks got on the board with a four-on-three power play marker 3:23 into the second stanza. Graham Mink utilized the extra space on the ice to get open near the goalmouth. He tapped in a cross-crease pass for his first goal of the season.
Adam Berti evened things at one goal apiece late in the second period. Danny Richmond teed up a shot from the top of the slot that Berti deflected past Worcester netminder Thomas Greiss. The power play marker at 15:56 was Berti's third of the year.
The Sharks took the lead with just 32 seconds remaining in the period. Riley Armstrong deflected a Mathieu Biron shot past a screened Corey Crawford for the go-ahead goal at 19:28.
Despite firing 11 shots on Greiss in the third period, the Admirals were unable to find the equalizer. Craig Valette tallied an empty net goal with 1:09 remaining to seal the win for Worcester.
Corey Crawford (31 shots, 29 saves) was saddled with the loss. Thomas Greiss (38 shots, 37 saves) earned the victory.
The Admirals were 1-7 on the power play. The Sharks were 2-5.
The squads will meet again tomorrow night at 7:15 for a rematch.
