Special Teams Un-Bearable For Admirals


HERSHEY, PA - The Hershey Bears (17-3-3-3) used three power play tallies and one shorthanded goal to defeat t he Norfolk Admirals (16-6-4-1) 4-1 on Sunday evening in Hershey.

The Bears dented the twine first midway through the second period while the Admirals were on the power play. Dave Steckel intercepted a pass in the Norfolk zone and dished the puck to a wide-open Alexandre Giroux. Giroux skated in alone on Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford and scored a shorthanded goal with a shot along the ice stick-side at 12:01.

Hershey doubled their lead just over two minutes later on the power play. Chris Bourque sent a point blast through a screen and past Crawford at 14:49 of the middle period to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.

The Admirals cut their deficit in half by netting a power play goal with 32 seconds remaining in the second period. Craig MacDonald got the puck in the slot and faked a shot before threading a pass to David Bolland at the left faceoff circle. Bolland sent a wrister past a diving Bears netminder Frederic Cassivi at 19:28 to cut the Hershey lead to 2-1.

However, the Bears netted two more power play tallies in the third period to seal the Admirals' fate. Giroux found the rebound of a Lawrence Nycholat shot and roofed it just 46 seconds into the final frame. Bourque capped scoring at 4-1 in favor of the Bears by converting a feed from Tomas Fleischmann at 13:10.

Crawford (42 shots, 38 saves) took the loss. Cassivi (42 shots, 41 saves) picked up the win.

The Admirals were 1-10 on the power play. Hershey was 3-10.

Norfolk will continue with the second leg of their six-game road trip on Friday night in Binghamton with a 7:05 tilt against the Senators.
