Quenneville to get extension from Hawks
Chicago Blackhawks Joel Quenneville to get extension.

The Chicago Blackhawks plan to acknowledge Thursday that they have a good thing in coach Joel Quenneville.

The Blackhawks have called an afternoon press conference to announce a contract extension for Quenneville, who guided the team this past spring to its first Stanley Cup title in 49 years.

Quenneville has been coach of the Blackhawks since Oct. 16, 2008, when he was announced as the in-season replacement for Denis Savard.

In his two seasons behind the bench, Quenneville's Hawks have reached the Western Conference Final and won a Stanley Cup. He has gone 97-44-19 during the regular season in that time and has won six of the seven playoff rounds he has coached with Chicago.

The Blackhawks opener this season will be Quenneville's 1,000th game behind an NHL bench. He began his head coaching career with St. Louis in 1996, where he spent eight seasons. He also spent three seasons as the head man in Colorado.
