Defenseman Brian Connelly represented the Rockford IceHogs at the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross in Hershey, Penn. on Monday night.
Connelly chipped in with two assists for the West squad in his first ever AHL All-Star game, but it was the East team that prevailed 11-8.
Rockford’s d-man dished the puck for Peoria’s T.J. Hensick to tip to the back of the net and give the West an early 2-1 lead at 2:47 in the first period. Then, the Bloomington, Minn. native picked up his second helper of the night on a goal scored by Oklahoma City’s Alexandre Giroux at 17:43 in the third period.
Binghamton Senators rookie forward Bobby Butler was named the most valuable player after registering a goal and three assists for the East.
The IceHogs and Connelly will return to action on Friday with a matchup in Milwaukee at the Bradley Center.
