The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned right wing Ben Smith to the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.

Smith, 23, has not appeared in any games with the Blackhawks this season. The Winston-Salem, North Carolina, native made his National Hockey League debut with Chicago last season, collecting one goal in six regular-season contests before notching three goals in seven Stanley Cup Playoff tilts. Smith ranked second on Rockford with 19 goals and eighth with 31 points (19G, 12A) in 63 regular-season AHL contests in 2010-11 during his professional debut.

The Blackhawks face off against the Phoenix Coyotes at Jobing.com Arena on Tuesday at 9:00 P.M. (CT). The game can be seen locally on WGN-TV Channel 9 and be heard on WGN Radio AM-720.
