Blackhawks select Teräväinen in first round of 2012 NHL Draft
The Chicago Blackhawks have selected Teuvo Teräväinen (TAY-vo tair-uh-VIGH-nen) from Jokerit of Finland’s SM-liiga in the first round (18th overall) of the 2012 National Hockey League Entry Draft at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh on Friday night.
Teräväinen, 17, registered 11 goals and seven assists in 40 regular-season tilts with Jokerit during the 2011-12 campaign, and added six points (2G, 4A) in nine SM-liiga postseason contests. He also tallied 22 points (13G, 9A) and a +14 plus/minus rating in 13 games with Jokerit’s under-20 club. The Helsinki, Finland, native paced his country’s entry at the 2012 World U-18 Championships with six assists and totaled eight points (2G, 6A) in six games during the tournament.
