Teuvo Teravainen, C/LW
Acquired: Round 1, 18th overall
Current Team: Jokerit, SM-liiga
Projected 2012-13 Team: Jokerit

Silky playmaker doesn't turn 18 until September and has already established himself in Finland's top league. Another season of growth and development in his home country will serve him well before making the transition to North America. According to Head European Amateur Scout Niklas Blomgren, Teravainen played primarily on the wing last year, but is looking to start the season as a pivot.

Dillon Fournier, D
Acquired: Round 2, 48th overall
Current Team: Rouyn-Noranda, QMJHL
Projected 2012-13 Team: Rouyn-Noranda

Smooth puck-moving defenseman had 38 points from the back end in 52 games for the Huskies. Fournier will look to add some weight to his 6-feet-1 frame back in juniors.

Chris Calnan, RW
Acquired: Round 3, 79th overall
Current Team: Nobles and Greenough High School, Massachusetts
Projected 2012-13 Team: Waterloo (USHL)

Hard-nosed winger—the nephew of former Blackhawks star Jeremy Roenick—who took the NHL Scouting Combine by storm is choosing between the USHL and the Eastern Junior Hockey League’s South Shore Kings before heading to Boston College for the 2013-14 season.

Garret Ross, LW
Acquired: Round 5, 139th overall
Current Team: Saginaw (OHL)
Projected 2012-13 Team: Saginaw

Linemate of 2011 second-round selection Brandon Saad will return to the Spirit, where Head Coach Greg Gilbert calls him a “warrior.” Ross finished the 2011-12 season with 54 points (25G, 29A) and 93 PIM in 60 regular-season games.

Travis Brown, D
Acquired: Round 5, 149th overall
Current Team: Moose Jaw (WHL)
Projected 2012-13 Team: Moose Jaw

Two-way d-man will continue his development in the WHL, where he led all Moose Jaw defensemen with 24 assists and 31 points in 66 games in his rookie season.

Vince Hinostroza, C
Acquired: Round 6, 169th overall
Current Team: Waterloo (USHL)
Projected 2012-13 Team: Waterloo

Speedy workhorse from the Chicago suburbs will head back to Iowa for another year of seasoning before attending the University of Notre Dame the following year.

Brandon Whitney, G
Acquired: Round 7, 191st overall
Current Team: Victoriaville (QMJHL)
Projected 2012-13 Team: Victoriaville

Athletic netminder will return to Victoriaville for his second campaign in the Q. Described by Blackhawks Goaltending Development Coach Andrew Allen as “a very big goalie with huge potential,” Whitney will likely be the undisputed starter in net, after logging 36 appearances for the Tigres last season. “He’s going to come into his body and get more coordinated,” Allen says. “It’ll be nice to see him this year and how he progresses when he gets more minutes.”

Matt Tomkins, G
Acquired: Round 7, 199th overall
Current Team: Sherwood Park (AJHL)
Projected 2012-13 Team: Sherwood Park

Long-term goalie project will play another season of Tier 2 Junior-A hockey in Sherwood Park before moving on to Ohio State University for 2013-14. Tomkins didn’t strap on the pads until age 12, but according to Allen, he impressed scouts at Team Canada’s U20 goalie camp and gradually put himself on the draft radar.

“Both of them, Whitney and Tomkins, I can see them really blossoming,” Allen says.
