CHICAGO -- Ray Emery will get the start on Friday night for the Chicago Blackhawks, but the bigger goaltending story of the day occurred when starter Corey Crawford didn’t participate in the morning skate.

Crawford, who's 7-0-3 with a 1.65 goals-against average, is out with an undisclosed upper-body injury and was listed as "day-to-day" by Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville after Chicago’s Friday morning skate.

Crawford took a hit in the third period of Tuesday's game against the Anaheim Ducks, but Quenneville didn't say that was necessarily the thing that resulted in the injury. Crawford finished the game and lost in a shootout.

"I don't know if it was that or from practice," Quenneville said. "I don't know if it was a defining blow."

Recently-acquired goalie Henrik Karlsson was also recalled from Rockford of the American Hockey League on Friday morning to back up Emery -- who is 3-0-0 with a 2.62 GAA and .920 save percentage.

"He's the guy and I just play when I get in there," Emery said of Crawford. "I want there not to be a letdown and make them comfortable with giving him time off. Whenever I get called upon, I need to be ready to go."
