Chicago advanced to the second round by defeating the Minnesota Wild in five games in the conference quarterfinals. The seventh-seeded Red Wings topped the second-seeded Anaheim Ducks in Game 7 to extend their season.

The Blackhawks finished the 2012-13 regular season with the NHL’s best record (36-7-5), marking the first time since 1990-91 that Chicago clinched the Presidents’ Trophy and fourth time in franchise history that the team has finished atop the league standings (1966-67, 1969-70, 1990-91). For the first time since 1992-97, Chicago has reached the Stanley Cup Playoffs for five consecutive seasons.

Chicago posted a 4-0-0 record against Detroit during the regular season, with three of the four games needing overtime or a shootout to decide a winner. This marks the 16th time that the Blackhawks and Red Wings will square off in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Chicago owns an 8-7 series advantage in the previous 15 meetings.
