Quenneville: Hossa 'likely' to play in Game 4
Hossa was a late scratch in Game 3, pulled from the lineup after taking part of the pre-game warmup. The Blackhawks said Monday night that Hossa had an upper-body injury and was "day-to-day." He was replaced by Ben Smith, who hadn't played in a Stanley Cup Playoff game this season and just one regular-season game.
Smith, who did not take part in the warm-up, said he rushed to get warm and ready for the game.
Tuesday, Quenneville said Smith was ready and he did not take part in the pregame skate for strategic purposes.
"Ben was ready," Quenneville said. "I know that he was doing everything he can. We were hopeful Hossa was playing and Ben was doing everything to get ready. He was ready."
Asked why he wouldn't have a player who hasn't played in almost two months take the warm-up before his playoff debut, Quenneville said it was a bit of gamesmanship on the part of the Blackhawks.
"He would have taken warm-up if we wanted him to. He knew there was a chance he was going to play. He was getting himself ready. I just didn't want to tip our hand that there's something going on."
In 19 playoff games this season, Hossa has seven goals, eight assists and is a plus-8.
