The Chicago Blackhawks announced today plans to more than double the team’s 333 North Michigan Avenue retail space, the Blackhawks Store, transforming it into a two-floor flagship store at one of the most highly-trafficked locations in the city at the intersection of Wacker Drive and Michigan Avenue. The project, conceived by Chipman Design Architecture, will be officially unveiled in fall 2014.

“This is an incredible opportunity to engage with our fans on the Magnificent Mile, a world class location on one of the most iconic streets in the world,” said Blackhawks President & CEO John McDonough. “We envision the Blackhawks Store will become a must-visit destination for locals, tourists and fans alike.”

“We are very excited for this unique opportunity to work with the Chicago Blackhawks and Wirtz Realty on designing a premier retail facility on Michigan Avenue for our defending Stanley Cup champions,” said Daniel Tessarolo, Principal and COO of Chipman Design Architecture.

The Landmark 333 North Michigan Avenue Building is one of the city’s most treasured art deco skyscrapers, designed in 1928 by the world-renowned architectural firm of Holabird and Root. It is ideally located, at the southern end of the Michigan Avenue Magnificent Mile retail district, and just a block north of Millennium Park, one of Chicago's top tourist attractions. The Landmark Building’s exposure to Michigan Avenue, Wacker Drive, and the Chicago River, make it an ideal location for world-class retailers. The building is undergoing a $48 million renovation that includes the creation of a multi-level retail parcel, fully renovated office suites above, and restoration of the building's historically significant features.

“We are up for the challenge of restoring one of the city's most important Landmark buildings in one of the most highly-regarded locations in Chicago," said Don Vitek, SVP of Wirtz Realty. “We are able to provide something that many other properties do not: a first-class location with fully updated services and amenities, and with Historic Landmark appeal. We are creating multiple opportunities for world-class retailers in an unbeatable location, while offering fully updated office suites, with restored Landmark interior features. This is a very exciting opportunity for us."

In addition to the Chicago Blackhawks flagship store, the 362,210 square foot structure will provide four levels of retail space, with a mix of luxury retailers and restaurants, and a wide variety of fully updated office suites on the floors above.
