John Wiedeman is in his ninth season as the Radio Play-by-Play voice of Blackhawks hockey on WGN Radio AM-720.

Wiedeman served as the Radio Play-by-Play voice of the New York Islanders from 2001 to 2006. Prior to joining the Islanders broadcast team, he spent four seasons as the Radio Play-by-Play voice and Director of Media Relations for the Cincinnati Cyclones of the International Hockey League, also serving as a substitute Broadcaster for the Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets. In 1996-97, he served as the Radio Play-by-Play broadcaster for the Philadelphia Flyers, a season in which the Flyers advanced to the Stanley Cup Final.

A graduate of the University of Kansas, Wiedeman was named Director of Broadcasting, Public and Media Relations for the Muskegon Fury of the Colonial Hockey League in 1992. In August 1994, he took over the same position with the Worcester IceCats of the American Hockey League.

On Jan. 9, 2014, Wiedeman was selected as the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association’s Illinois Sportscaster of the Year. On June 19, 2014, Wiedeman and broadcast partner Troy Murray received top honors in the Chicago Market “Best Radio Play-By-Play” category at the 2014 Illinois Broadcasters Association (IBA) Silver Dome Awards. He and Murray also received top honors in the “Best Sports Story” category at the 2012 IBA Silver Dome Awards and the “Sports Play-by-Play” category at the 2011 IBA Silver Dome Awards.

An avid hockey player, Wiedeman and his wife, Kelly, have two children: daughter, Reilly, and son, Sean Patrick.
