Community Initiatives

Chicago Gateway Green
Since the teams inception in 1926, the Chicago Blackhawks have pledged to support programs and institutions that seek to create a better tomorrow for our fans and the millions of people through out Illinois and Northwest Indiana. Chicago Gateway Green provides the Blackhawks with a comprehensive community initiative that aims to educate our fan base to be leaders in responsible environmental development. With our Chicago Gateway Green partnership, the current generation of Blackhawks staff and fans can help to lead the charge in leaving our environment in a better condition for the generations to follow.

Readers Are Leaders
The Chicago Blackhawks are proud to support the WTTW Kids Readers are Leaders program. WTTW Kids "Readers Are Leaders" FREE family events will delight children 3-8 years old and inspire the whole family to sing-along and participate in reading activities. Each live performance, hosted by Miss Lori, includes original songs, engaging activities, story readings, and a free children's book for each child in attendance. Learn more!

Hospital Visits
Each season, Chicago Blackhawk players and coaches visit local children's hospitals to sign autographs, pose for pictures, participate in games or craft activities and interact with children. In the past, the Blackhawks have visited The University of Chicago Hospitals, Children's Memorial Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children and the Ronald McDonald Children's Hospital of Loyola University Medical Center.

Warriors for Weber
Brett Weber is a 12-year-old boy from South Elgin who was recently diagnosed with leukemia and is currently undergoing treatment. Please join his fight and become a "Warrior for Weber." Please hang gold ribbons from your mailbox, house, tree or anywhere else you would like to show your support. To make a monetary donation, visit any National City Bank and donate under "Warriors for Weber."

Good Sports, Inc.
We are proud to announce Good Sports, Inc. as our official equipment partner! Good Sports is a nonprofit organization that provides sports equipment for disadvantaged youth participating in sports programs in the Chicagoland area. The initiative is supported by NHL member clubs, players, NHL alumni, and fans. To date, Hockey is for Everyone has exposed close to 45,000 boys and girls to unique hockey experiences. Hockey Fights Cancer
Hockey Fights Cancer is a joint initiative founded in December 1998 by the NHL and the NHL Players Association to raise money and awareness for hockey's most important fight. Hockey Fights Cancer is supported by NHL Member Clubs, NHL Alumni, the NHL Officials' Association, Professional Hockey Trainers and Equipment Managers, marketing partners, broadcast partners and fans throughout North America. The charity's largest initiative is the annual Hockey Fights Cancer On-Line Charity Auction. Coinciding with festivities surrounding the NHL All-Star Game, the auction has raised more than $1.6 million since it began in 2000.

  • Once-In-A-Lifetime Online Charity Auction: Each year, the Chicago Blackhawks offer one lucky bidder an exclusive package that includes tickets, that includes tickets, a Zamboni ride, the chance to meet Blackhawk players and more. This offer is available for auction on the NHL website as part of Hockey Fights Cancer awareness month.
  • Online Jersey Auction: Each season, the team captain of each NHL team wears a special Hockey Fights Cancer patch at a select game in January. These jerseys are then auctioned online to benefit Hockey Fights Cancer.
  • Hockey's All-Star Kids: This program facilitates interaction between players and young patients with cancer and other illnesses in childhood. The Blackhawks make yearly visits to hospitals to spend time with the young patients.
