Central Scouting
"Kevin is a skilled power forward who plays with enthusiasm and drive. He has very good hands and is an excellent play maker. He is a strong skater with a long stride, and uses his long reach and puck protection to beat defenders. He has an excellent wrist shot with a sneaky quick release, and will shoot from any angle. He controls the puck very well in traffic, sees the ice very well, and finds the open man. He has a very good knack of playing the puck in his skates for a big player, often moving the puck from skates to stick without losing speed."

Nobles head coach Brian Day
"He has an unbelievable skill set that's apparent when you watch him play. But he also has great hockey IQ. He understands the pace of a hockey game as well as anyone I've seen. He does things I've never seen before, all those subtle things. He knows where everybody around him is at all times. When he chases down a puck he looks to see where everybody is. He'll also take a pass differently than other players. Ninety-nine percent will take a pass from a teammate tape-to-tape. Kevin will sometimes just let it go and take it off the board, to get more separation."

Red Line Report
"Great overall package of physical tools. Has tremendous size/strength ratio combined with terrific skating ability. Long stride with balance, acceleration, and a fine top-end gear. First round skills/talent. Loves to handle the puck and can go end-to-end and make good moves at top speed. More playmaker than scorer - always looks to pass first. Has a very heavy slap shot and a good release on his wrister, but is not able to pick corners. At times falls in love with his own puckhandling ability and plays too much on the perimeter, often trying to beat the same defender twice in the same sequence with different moves instead of moving the puck at the right time to the right spot. Likes to drive wide with speed, but should use his strength to better advantage by driving at the net more. Our nagging doubt is that he should be absolutely dominant at the weak prep school level, but often is not."

Notes & Accomplishments

• Hayes was a member of Team USA at the 2009 Ivan Hlinka Tournament and in the fall of 2009 he played on the Cape Cod Whalers Under-18 Midget team helping lead them to a 23-7-4 record before suiting up for Nobles for the winter.

• His brother, Jimmy, was selected 60th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2008. He is also the second cousin of former NHLers Tom Fitzgerald and Keith Tkachuk.

• Although just a junior at Nobles this year, Hayes will transfer to West Roxbury High, taking summer classes to accelerating his education in order to join his older brother at Boston College in the fall of 2010.

• He played with fellow draft prospects Charlie Coyle (No. 24 ranked) and Bill Arnold (No. 36 ranked) for three years (Bantam to Midget) on the South Shore Dynamos before attending Nobles.
