Los Angeles rallied for two 3rd period goals and Dustin Brown tallied his second of the game in overtime to give the Kings a 3-2 decision before a standing room crowd of 21,715 at the United Center Sunday.
The loss snapped the Blackhawks' season high four-game win streak. The two teams will battle again New Year's night as Chicago begins a three-game West Coast road trip.
Brown picked up his 17th and 18th goals of the season with the overtime winner coming at 3:31 on a 2-on-1 breakout as his low shot caught the corner of the net.

Brown's first of the night came at 2:43 of the 3rd period, also on a 2-on-1 situation, 33 seconds after the Hawks had taken a 2-0 lead. His 20-footer caught the lower left corner.
The Kings tied the game on a power play at 7:29 when former Hawk Kyle Calder was in the right place to pick up a rebound to punch in a short shot.
After a scoreless opening period, the Hawks scored early in the middle frame with Jonathan Toews getting his 15th goal off a Brent Seabrook rebound shot.
Jacob Dowell, who missed a dozen games because of a broken foot, got his 2nd of the season at 2:13 of the 3rd period to make it 2-0 on a perfect pass from veteran Martin Lapointe. Dowell was one of four former University of Wisconsin players in the Chicago lineup.
The Kings came on strong in the 3rd period, outshooting the Hawks 15-7 and 36-32 for the game, with Brown leading all players with 10 shots on goal.
In the 2nd period, Nikolai Khabibulin, gunning for his first shutout of the season, stopped Brown twice in close and Derek Armstrong once.
Kings goalie Jason Labarbera caught a few breaks when Hawk rookie Jack Skille, playing in his first NHL game, hit the crossbar midway through the 2nd and Tuomo Ruutu rattled a shot off the post midway through the 3rd.
Hawks coach Denis Savard felt his team had the effort but made a couple of mistakes that cost them.
The Hawks begin their three-game road Tuesday in LA and then move on to Phoenix and Anaheim before returning to the United Center Sunday to face Western Conference leader Detroit.
AP Notes: The Blackhawks played without two regular defensemen, Brent Sopel and James Wisniewski, who sustained injuries in Chicago's 5-2 win over Nashville on Wednesday. Sopel will miss one-to-two weeks with a broken finger and Wisniewski will be out two to four weeks with a sprained knee. ... The Blackhawks recalled D Danny Richmond, as well as Skille, from Rockford of the AHL. Both played Sunday. ... Kings LW Mike Cammalleri missed his third game with a rib injury. Los Angeles D Kevin Dallman sat out his third game with a broken foot.
