Grants/Volunteers

How do agencies request grants from Chicago Blackhawk Charities?
Grants are awarded by Chicago Blackhawk Charities in response to applications received from organizations serving people or addressing the following priority program interests:

Youth Programs
Supporting homeless, ill, or abused children. Preventing risk-related behavior such as gang involvement, drug abuse, and crime. Supporting health, fitness, team work, and a positive learning environment.

Health Programs
Treating individuals suffering from disabling effects of physical injury.

Geographic Priorities
Primarily recognizing Near West Side Chicago Neighborhood organizations. In some cases, grants will be authorized for agencies serving groups in Metropolitan Chicago.

In order to receive an application, please send a letter of inquiry along with information regarding your organization (ie: annual report, brochure, nature, purpose and cost of the project they would like to propose for funding), to the following address:

Letters of inquiry for the 2009 Grant Cycle will be accepted from Jan. 1, 2009 to Feb. 16, 2009. Each organization submitting a letter of inquiry may be contacted after initial research to set up a meeting or site visit to gather further information. Grant applications are provided after the meeting or site visit if the organization meets appropriate criteria.

There is no guarantee of annual support. Grants will be reviewed and processed by the Blackhawk Charities Advisory Committee. Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received. The Blackhawk Charities Advisory Committee meets once a year to review applications. Grant applications are due back in May. Applications are reviewed and grants will be awarded in September / October 2009.
