CHICAGO (AP) -- Shane Doan and the Phoenix Coyotes took full advantage of Scott Nichol's late roughing penalty.
With Nichols in the penalty box, Doan scored a power-play goal with 1:07 left in the third period to give the Coyotes a 2-2 tie with the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night.
"You've got to have better judgment," Blackhawks coach Brian Sutter said of Nichol's penalty. "We had won the hockey game at that point in time. It was a tough hockey game."
Doan beat goalie Michael Leighton high on the glove side with a 30-foot shot.
"I just needed to control my emotions in the heat of battle and I didn't," Nichol said. "It cost our team the game."
Jeff Taffe also scored for the Coyotes. Brian Boucher made 37 saves, allowing only Kyle Calder's two power-play goals off deflections in the third period.
Although the Blackhawks snapped an eight-game losing streak, their winless slide reached 14 games -- their longest since 1959-60. They're 0-9-2-3 during the slide.
"We're disappointed with our effort overall, but it's good to get a point out of this game," Doan said. "Give them a lot of credit, they played really well."
Leighton made 14 saves.
Taffe opened the scoring on a power-play at 6:38 of the first period, beating Leighton between the legs. The goal ended an 0-for-32 Phoenix power-play drought.
"Those are the hardest teams to play against when they're losing like that," Taffe said. "They were playing desperate and it showed."
Overlapping Phoenix penalties early in the second gave the Blackhawks a 2:42 power play, including 42 seconds with a two-man advantage.
Boucher made a pad save on Mark Bell's point-blank one-timer at 7:23 of the second to snuff the Blackhawks' best scoring chance during the power play. Bell fired from the edge of the crease after taking Calder's feed.
Leighton made a stick save to stop the Coyotes' Chris Gratton on a breakaway midway through the second.
Calder scored a four-on-three power play on a deflection at 5:56 of the third to tie it 1-1. Standing in front of the crease, Calder redirected Bryan Berard's shot from the top of the slot over Boucher's shoulder. The power-play goal was only the second for Chicago in its last 33 chances.
Calder gave Chicago a 2-1 lead with 6:03 left in the third, deflecting Mark Bell's shot from the boards over Boucher.
