Columbus goalie Pascal Leclaire turned in his NHL-leading 8th shutout of the season while stopping 30 Blackhawk shots as the Blue Jackets registered a 1-0 decision at the United Center Thursday.
Winger Jared Boll deflected Ole-Kristen Tollefson's long shot at 7:20 of the middle period for the only score of the game. It was Boll's 5th of the season.
Leclaire has already set a Columbus team mark for whitewashes. Now in his 3rd season, he had only one career shutout going into the campaign.
Hawks goalie Nikolai Khabibulin was also outstanding as he made 26 saves.
Chicago coach Denis Savard said he was very disappointed by his team's effort.
"They outbattled us for the loose pucks and some of our players weren't willing to work hard enough," Savard said.
The Hawks outshot the Blue Jackets 14-3 in the final period but couldn't get the puck past Leclaire.
In the opening period, Leclaire made key saves on Craig Adams just outside the goal crease and a close-in attempt by Patrick Kane.
On the other end of the ice, Khabibulin came up big twice at point-blank range on David Vyborny and on a 20-foot drive by Derick Brassard.

The Hawks best scoring chance in the middle period came off the stick of Patrick Sharp, but Leclaire prevailed.
Khabibulin kept the Hawks within one goal by stopping Nikolai Zherdev in-close after the Columbus winger hit the post with another shot just past the midway point of the frame.
In the final period Leclaire stopped Adam Burish at the six-minute mark just outside the crease and halted Robert Lang's shot with a pad save at the midway point.
The Hawks got a late power play with 32 seconds left in regulation time and pulled Khabibulin for an extra attacker but couldn't get the equalizer.
The Hawks failed on six power play attempts and have only connected twice in their last 30 chances. The Blue Jackets were 0-5.
Columbus wound up their five-game road trip with a 3-2 mark while Chicago's season mark dropped to .500 (23-23-4).
Following the All-Star break the Hawks have their next seven games on the road beginning Wednesday in Colorado. They won't return to the United Center until February 17 for a Sunday matinee game against the Avalanche.
AP Notes: The Blackhawks played without six regulars, all forwards - Jonathan Toews (knee), Jason Williams (sports hernia), Kevyn Adams (knee), Dave Bolland (broken finger), Martin Lapointe (bruised kidney) and Kris Versteeg (shoulder). ... The Blackhawks play their next seven games on the road and don't return to the United Center until Feb. 17. ... Chicago LW Ben Eager returned after missing 13 games with a concussion. ... Columbus C Sergei Fedorov missed his fourth game with a concussion. Blue Jackets D Dan Fritsche sat out his first game with a lower back sprain.
Blue Jackets Quotes
Head coach Ken Hitchcock: "We tried to sit on it a bit in the third, but the first two periods we played really well. Both teams played extremely hard today. I think we all knew what was at stake and I think both teams really competed at a high level."
Goaltender Pascal Leclaire: "I think we played them really strong 5-on-5, especially their top line. They're really skilled and we didn't give them a lot of space tonight ... when they had power plays we were able to shut them down pretty good. Our [penalty] kill came up big like it usually does, and I think that's the two keys right there."
