Blackhawks 4, Canucks 2
Vancouver Canucks 2, Chicago Blackhawks 4

Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville and goaltender Cristobal Huet both earned their first career Blackhawks wins as Chicago beat Vancouver in front of a sold-out crowd Sunday night. Patrick Sharp had two goals and an assist and Huet had 28 saves in the win.

Quenneville said he was proud of the way the Hawks were able to rebound in tonight's game; not only did the Hawks bounce back from the last-second loss in St. Louis Saturday night, but came back from an early 1-0 deficit in the first period to capture the win.

“I thought I had [my first Blackhawks win] last night,” said Quenneville. “It was an emotional loss for us. I liked the response [tonight].”

Vancouver’s Pavol Demitra led off the scoring with a goal early in the first, but Brent Seabrook responded a minute later to tie the game a 1-1. Sharp put the Blackhawks up 2-1 heading into the first intermission on a goal that deflected off of Mattias Ohlund’s stick, and the Hawks never looked back.

Patrick Kane added a goal and an assist in the third period to put the Hawks up for good.

“When you score a bunch of goals like that, it’s a good feeling. We’ve got to ride this confidence,” said center Jonathan Toews. “Last night we let down at the end and it was really frustrating. Tonight, we were just telling each other give that little extra; do the little things that make a difference that helps you squeeze out the win.”

Equally impressive for the Hawks was the goaltending of Huet, who earned his first win as a Blackhawk, saving 28 shots and killing all four Vancouver power plays. The win was Huet’s first start in three games, after Nikolai Khabibulin got back-to-back starts on Wednesday and Saturday.

“Huey’s been better and better every game. He was outstanding tonight and it’s a nice situation when both goalies are giving us –high-end performance,” said Quenneville. “I think team’s respond when they see that type of effort.”

Overall, Quenneville said he's been pleased with the consistency he’s seen in his two games behind the Hawks' bench.

“You want to start fast, but at the same time I think we were pretty consistent through the rest of the night,” he said. “There are not too many nights when you can take a night off; you’ve got to play all-out and find a way to win.”

The Blackhawks will look to continue their strong play on Wednesday when they host the Edmonton Oilers.
