Blackhawks 7, Coyotes 1
Phoenix Coyotes 1, Chicago Blackhawks 7
The Blackhawks got contributions from the top line on down in their 7-1 rout of the Phoenix Coyotes Sunday night. Ben Eager netted two goals and Andrew Ladd added four points (1 G, 3 A) in the victory while the Hawks also got tallies from Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp, Dave Bolland and Dustin Byfuglien.

After falling 5-4 in a shootout against the archrival Detroit Red Wings Saturday night, the Hawks were glad to rebound with one of their strongest efforts of the season against another conference opponent.

“It’s a big win at home,” said Sharp, who had a goal and assist on the night. “We wanted to get those two points in Detroit, but it was great to see the guys get back at it 24 hours later.”

“I thought we played pretty well last night, and we just wanted to come up with the same kind of effort tonight,” said Ladd. “We got a better result; it was just one of those games where everything seemed to go the right way.”

The Hawks began their offensive attack early, with four tallies in the first period on their way to seven unanswered goals in the game's first 30 minutes. Chicago's goals came in such quick succession that the United Center’s trademark goal horn, which runs on a compressor, stopped working during the second period.

“Those are tough games to play,” said Sharp of the blowout win. “You want to protect yourself and your teammates while showing respect to their team. I thought we did a good job with that.”

Cristobal Huet, who saw his fifth straight start Sunday with Nikolai Khabibulin still sidelined by an injury, made 20 saves while only allowing Enver Lisin’s breakaway goal in the closing minute of the second period.

“It’s a great win for us,” Huet said. “My night was pretty easy because we played a great all-around game.”

The Hawks offense was well-rounded all night with goals coming from all four offensive lines.

“It seems like we got production from a lot of guys tonight,” said Hawks head coach Joel Quenneville. “The offense has been pretty consistent and everybody’s contributing.”

“To be a great team in this league you’ve got to have four lines that can score goals,” said Ladd. “When the first two lines don't score, you have to have your other lines step up. This game is a step in the right direction.”

The Blackhawks, who currently rank third in the NHL in goals scored (90), play Ottawa, who has surrendered the third-fewest goals in the league (56) Wednesday night at the United Center.
