NHL Winter Classic 2009 FAQ

The NHL announced that the Chicago Blackhawks will host the NHL Winter Classic 2009 at Wrigley Field on January 1, 2009 at noon CT.

The NHL Winter Classic 2009 will be the second regular-season outdoor NHL game played in the United States (the Buffalo Sabres hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins at Ralph Wilson Stadium last New Year’s Day) and the third regular-season outdoor game in League history (the Edmonton Oilers hosted the Montreal Canadiens at Commonwealth Stadium Nov. 22, 2003).

I am a current Blackhawks full season ticketholder. Will I have tickets to the game?

The Blackhawks are proud to be able to offer current season ticketholders -- and new season ticketholders, based on availability -- the right to purchase tickets for the Winter Classic. Season ticketholders will be able to purchase up to the same number of tickets to the Winter Classic as they hold for the rest of the season, subject to any ticket limit set by the NHL.

Where will my seats for the Winter Classic be?

Because Wrigley Field has a different seating arrangement than the United Center, exact seating cannot be guaranteed at this time. Prices and seat locations will be determined by the NHL at a later date.

Has a price been set for tickets to the Winter Classic?

The NHL will determine ticket pricing for the Winter Classic. Tickets, policies and pricing information will be established by the NHL at a later date.

What if I choose not to purchase Winter Classic tickets?

Should a season ticketholder choose to not purchase tickets, he or she will not be billed for the Winter Classic. If a season ticketholder has already paid in full for his or her season tickets, the amount will be refunded or credited towards future tickets.

I am a United Center Suite Holder or Harris Club member. Will I have the option to purchase tickets?

The Blackhawks and NHL are also proud to announce that Full Suite Holders and Harris Club members will be given the option to purchase tickets to the Winter Classic.

Why will I pay for the Winter Classic separately?

For all sales up until the announcement of the Winter Classic, tickets being sold are considered games played at the United Center. This game is being relocated by the NHL and ticket prices are being set by the NHL. Blackhawks season ticketholders have the option not to take their tickets for the Winter Classic and receive a full refund for the game that is not being played at the United Center.

I am a Chicago Cubs season ticketholder. Will I be guaranteed tickets?

The Blackhawks have no information regarding Cubs season ticketholders and access to the Winter Classic.

Will single-game tickets be offered to the general public?

No information has been released by the NHL with regard to single-game tickets at this time. The only way to currently guarantee a spot at the Winter Classic is to become a Blackhawks full season ticketholder (while supplies last). Will group tickets be available for the Winter Classic?
